WHY OUR COURSE FEES ARE SO LOW

Our course fees are set at very reasonable levels when compared with most courses on offer in tertiary institutions (from $3,500 to $6,000 per year to learn to weave kākahu as part of a degree programme).

We offer a payment plan that costs less than $20 a week (billed monthly at $79).

We want our teaching and expertise to be affordable for those who wish to learn with us.

Our course fees are not subsidised by the Ministry of Education or eligible for student loan. We do not assess your weaving against the NZQA framework. Most people who enrol with us do so because their goal is to acquire the skills and knowledge that we are renowned for rather than a formal qualification.

If you complete all five modules of The Matrix and you demonstrate the values of our school in your work and conduct, we will invite you to a formal graduation where you will be presented with a certificate of graduation. You will also be listed as a graduate of the Hetet School of Māori Art on our website.

WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY

"I feel priviledged to be a student of the Hetet School of Māori Art. I think you have captured well the legacy of your whānau teaching and adapted for the future survival of our precious artform using an innovative digital platform. Tau ke! . . . . "

Awhina Tamarapa
Kapiti, Aotearoa New Zealand

"To learn weaving online is the best way, especially living overseas. Its hard to get anyone to teach you these days and everyone is busy. Even better is you can go at your own pace, especially when you need to find and gather materials."

Marlene West
Gold Coast, Australia

"The Matrix is the best learning tool ever. You can go over and over the lessons, go back and revisit older lessons and catch those things you missed the first time around. For someone like me who needs to repeat repeat repeat this is a winner."

Leigh Bosch
Helensville, Aotearoa New Zealand

"I have access to one of New Zealand’s premier weavers and the techniques that have been handed down to her through the generations of weavers in her family. This is like gold to a weaver, the mentoring, clear instruction and the integrity that comes with the Hetet Maori Art legacy – it’s like hitting the weaving jackpot!"

Heather Carrigan
Tangowahine, Aotearoa New Zealand

"I love the freedom of being able to learn at my own pace. I don’t have to commit to weekly classes. And I use it as a time for ‘just me’. To meditate and reflect."

Amiria Hunt
Fielding, Aotearoa New Zealand
