"I found a short video of Veranoa on You tube. The first thing was the name Hetet. I'd heard that name all my life when it came to weaving. Not really knowing anything except I knew that was a respected name in the world of weaving. The clincher was watching the video and Veranoa having a lovely soft voice, weaving with ease but in a way that I knew even I could follow. It was what I call "A rapid heartbeat moment". I signed up immediately and have never looked back. "

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER
Veranoa Hetet

Kia ora!

When anyone asks me why I weave, I always say "I Weave, I Breathe!" - that's how much weaving means to me.

I'm from a family of Māori carvers and weavers. The women in my family have  been weaving and teaching weaving for generations.

My mother, Erenora Puketapu-Hetet, and I spent decades together teaching Māori weaving techniques to people throughout New Zealand and the world, in tribal settings, tertiary institutions, private training establishments, museums,  and other places.

Raranga is just one of several traditional Māori weaving techniques our family specialise in. You can very quickly learn to weave simple baskets like Kono and Kono Roa to use around your home and give as gifts.  You'll do this following a specific series of lessons we call The Matrix that makes everything easy to learn.

I can't wait to show you how to weave. You're going to have fun!
