Veranoa Hetet descends from a family of renowned weavers. Her great-grandmother, Rangimarie Hetet, her mother, Erenora Puketapu-Hetet, and her great-aunt, Diggeress Te Kanawa, were all celebrated Māori weavers and revered teachers.

Drawing on decades of experience teaching learners from all walks of life, Erenora and Veranoa created The Matrix®—a unique step-by-step system designed to teach weaving with the right techniques in the right order. This method makes learning accessible, enjoyable, and achievable for everyone.

With over 35 years of teaching experience, including 10 years online, Veranoa has guided thousands of students to master the art of weaving Raranga, Taaniko, and Whatu Kākahu. Her online courses have been proven to help learners build skills and confidence, no matter their starting point.

How long will it take to complete the courses?

Most people complete these modules over 6-9 months.

How long will I have access to the courses?

You will have 24/7 access via our website and mobile app for 12 months.

If we give you any longer, it is likely that it will end up being another thing that you will 'get around to' one day.

Our goal for you is to help you finish what you start and help you become a weaver of beautiful Kete.

What materials and equipment will I need?

For Modules 1 and the Bundle of Fun! you can use harakeke (NZ Flax) and/or alternative materials such as firm paper, canvas, ribbon, packing tape.

You will also need a Stanley knife, some laundry pegs (the spring kind), an old kitchen knife and a firm surface to weave on (with a source of natural light which is best).

For Module 2, you will need a source of harakeke (NZ Flax). 

Harakeke grows abundantly throughout Aotearoa NZ and also in many other parts of the world.
Walk your area and see if you can spot harakeke growing in gardens or parks near you. Leave a note to ask homeowners if they would like you to prune their plants.
